TDA proposing constitutional protection for transportation funds

The Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin has begun an effort that could lead to a state constitutional amendment to prevent diversions of transportation funds to other purposes, according to a story in the Milwaukee-based Daily Reporter.

“In the past seven years, Gov. Jim Doyle’s administration has shifted about $1.3 billion from the transportation budget to stabilize other budgets, said Craig Thompson, executive director of the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin.” says the Daily Reporter story.

Although the newspaper refers to the TDA as a “road builders” group, the association includes membership across the transportation spectrum and advocates investments in all modes.
